Big Shopify Update: One-Page Checkout Now Available on All Plans from Basic to Plus (2024)

Shopify update brings one-page checkout to all merchants. Learn more about the improvements and how this impacts your conversion.

An efficient checkout not only reduces cart abandonment rates but also improves the user experience, leading to greater customer satisfaction and loyalty. When buyers encounter a fast and hassle-free payment process, they are more likely to complete their purchases and return for future transactions.

Shopify, already famous for having the highest converting checkout, has just released an update to further improve the functionalities for this stage. And there's good news! Now, all store owners will be able to use the one-page checkout, which is even faster, more functional, and offers more payment provider options. This means a much smoother shopping experience for your customers.

Keep reading to discover how this update can improve your Shopify store's conversion rate.

One-Page Checkout vs. Three-Page Checkout on Shopify

Shopify's one-page checkout combines all payment steps into a single page, making the process faster and more direct, without losing information or functionality. Analytics in the Shopify admin remain the same, and all existing customizations continue to work after the update.

However, some layout differences may impact the checkout display:

  • Header: The header layout may affect the display of the background image. Adjustments may be necessary if you use a background image in the checkout form.

  • Customizable Text: There is new customizable text in the Checkout section and the theme content editor system. Ensure your translations and customizations are correct in the new layout.

If you want to keep the three-page checkout, this is entirely possible. However, it's important to note that no store owner will be able to remain on the old checkout version. To keep the three-page checkout, you will first need to upgrade to the new checkout version and then configure your store to use that option.

    Attention: Migration Deadlines

Shopify recommends that store owners upgrade as soon as possible. Update your payment integration to benefit from the new checkout features:

    •  Store owners on Starter, Basic, Shopify, and Advanced plans: You have until July 19, 2024, to upgrade to the new one-page checkout. For more details, check out the article: How to upgrade to Shopify's one-page checkout

    • Store owners on the Plus plan As of August 13, 2024, checkout.liquid will be deactivated for the information, shipping, and payment pages and will no longer be available.
As of August 28, 2025, checkout.liquid will be deactivated for the thank you and order status pages and will no longer be available.
    • Important: Check the impacts of not performing this migration within the established deadlines here.

Benefits of the Shopify Checkout Update for Brazilian Retailers

This update will be standard for all Shopify store owners. Previously, these features were only available for some payment methods or required customizations. Now, all store owners can enjoy the improvements of the one-page checkout.

New features and applications will be available for use in the checkout, offering even more flexibility and functionality:

      1. Transparent Checkout for Shopify's Approved Payment Methods:

Transparent checkout allows customers to complete their credit card purchases without being redirected to external sites, providing a smoother and more integrated payment experience.

For PIX payments, the process has been optimized: the buyer chooses the PIX option, is redirected to a page with the necessary QR Code, and after payment, returns to the order confirmation page on Shopify, ensuring an efficient transaction. Boleto payment follows a similar flow.

*Store owners will be able to use the feature, provided that the chosen payment method has already updated its Payment App to be compatible with the updated standard. Check the updated Roadmap of Shopify Gateways functionalities.

       2. One Provider for Each Payment Method

Store owners will be able to integrate multiple payment methods from different providers, such as Cielo for credit cards, Mercado Pago for PIX, and Pagar.me for boletos, offering more options to customers and potentially increasing conversion rates and satisfaction.

      3. Automatic Address Filling

Increase checkout speed with selectable suggestions for input fields. Automatic address filling based on zip code. (To ensure the filling of street numbers and neighborhoods, you can use the Jataí app to customize order fields).

      4. Automatic CPF Filling

Fill in the CPF only once and enjoy automatic integration with payment systems, simplifying the purchase process and increasing efficiency. For buyers from other countries, there will be no need to enter the CPF field.

      5. Discounts by Payment Method with SavePay Pix

The SavePay Pix allows store owners to offer specific discounts for payments made via PIX. This functionality encourages customers to use this payment method, which is more economical for store owners due to reduced fees. By applying discounts, it is possible to increase PIX's attractiveness, improving sales conversion and customer satisfaction.

      • select Pix and pre-registered payment methods or enter your own
      • customize discount calls to attract your customers
      • simple and intuitive: you can enable and disable it whenever you want
      • choose the best place in the checkout to display the discount

      6. Creating Product Bundles with Shopify Bundles

The Shopify Bundles app allows store owners to create customized product bundles, encouraging customers to purchase more items at a special price. This strategy not only increases the average order value but also promotes products that might not sell as well individually. Bundles are an excellent way to move inventory and increase sales.

      7. Automation, Customization, and Order Management with Jataí

Jataí is a powerful tool that allows store owners to create custom fields in orders, facilitating the collection of specific and relevant business information. With automatic field filling, store owners can eliminate the need to manually correct orders, saving time and reducing errors.

      With Jataí, you can:

      • Note Attributes Editing: Customize and add extra information to orders, facilitating integration with ERP systems and eliminating the need for manual order entry.
      • Checkout Rule Validation:   Prevent fraud and improve your customers' shopping experience. With Checkout Rules, your customers will be alerted if they fill in invalid information (such as an address without a number, field limits, values, etc.).

      • Payment Method Data: Automatically captures payment method information, complementing order data accurately and efficiently.

      • Advanced Note Attributes Editing: Allows the creation of custom fields in orders, offering greater flexibility and adaptation to specific business needs.
      • Checkout Extensions (Shopify Plus): Adds extra fields to the checkout or thank you page, such as seller code, customer's birthday, and display of scannable barcode for boleto and pix, providing a more complete and personalized shopping experience.

        8. Payment Method Customization with Hide Pay

Hide Pay allows store owners to hide, order, and rename payment methods based on various conditions, such as product, customer, geography, cart, or order. This customization helps to offer a cleaner checkout experience tailored to customers' specific needs, potentially increasing conversion rates and user satisfaction.
