What is Shopify Editions?

Shopify Editions is the semi-annual event where Shopify reveals its main releases and updates. It's where they show the direction they are taking as a platform.

More than just a list of new features, it's a strategic roadmap for anyone who thrives on e-commerce and wants to sell better, operate more efficiently, and grow consistently.

Main Highlights of Shopify Editions Summer '25:

We've separated the releases by area for easy navigation, so you can quickly find what's new in Operations, Retail, Development, and Marketing.

🌍 Global Commerce: native scalability with Shopify Markets

Shopify is consolidating its position as a global platform. Now, you can manage multiple operations (DTC, B2B, and physical) from a single admin with Shopify Markets

  • Country-specific management of languages, currencies, products, and local prices.

  • Automatic calculation of international duties and taxes directly at checkout.

  • Integration with localization tools, such as the "Translate & Adapt" app, which facilitates content customization by market.

If scaling globally previously required multiple stores, you can now do so with a native structure and much more agility.

🏢 B2B: more flexible, secure, and adapted to the Brazilian reality

Shopify's B2B is becoming more robust and finally addressing more complex realities: Shopify has made a leap in B2B with updates that make inter-company operations more secure and practical:

  • Deposit at checkout: you can now configure a mandatory upfront payment (e.g., 30% of the total value) to confirm the order. This prevents losses from cancellations and ensures buyer commitment before production or shipping.

  • Native manual payments: it's possible to offer payment methods more common in B2B, such as bank transfer, boleto, purchase order, and deferred invoicing — all directly at checkout, without workarounds or external apps.

  • Personalized catalogs and prices per customer: you can show different products and prices for each customer or customer group, with specific rules for volume, discount, or exclusivity.

  • Dedicated checkouts: it's possible to define unique conditions per customer, such as accepted payment methods, shipping rules, deadlines, or extra mandatory fields — all configured individually, without affecting your DTC store.

  • Catalog-based orders: your customers can purchase directly through an interactive table with SKUs, quantities, and variants, making the process faster and more direct — ideal for sales representatives and recurring purchases.

  • Integration with ERP and external systems: with the new improved B2B API, you can easily connect the store to the company's internal systems, synchronizing orders, inventory, invoicing, and customer registration automatically.

🛒 Checkout: faster, modular, and conversion-focused

  • Flat rate for split shipments
It's now possible to charge a single shipping fee even when the order ships from multiple distribution centers. This reduces friction at checkout and avoids surprises in the final price for the customer.

  • Checkout on Roblox
Shopify launched its first official checkout integration within Roblox, allowing brands to sell physical products in the virtual environment. An important step for brands that work with communities and gamified experiences.
  • Upgrade guide for "Thank You" and Order Status pages
Shopify launched a personalized guide based on the store's apps and customizations for those who want to make the most of the new possibilities of these pages — including tracking, recommendations, and CTAs.

  • Checkout 2 seconds faster
Checkout loading is even lighter and faster. This reduces waiting time and has a direct impact on conversion, especially on mobile devices.

  • Delivery options for unavailable items
When an item is not available for the standard address, the customer can now choose another delivery method (such as in-store pickup or another address), directly in the checkout flow.

🎯 Marketing: AI and automations at the core of campaigns

Marketing on Shopify is becoming increasingly autonomous and intelligent:

  • Shop Campaigns with AI: you describe the campaign objective, and in a few clicks, Shopify generates ready-to-run ads and emails — using your real data as a base.

  • Shopify Audiences 2.0 (exclusive to Plus): create segmented audiences based on the purchasing behavior of thousands of consumers across the entire Shopify network. Perfect for scaling campaigns with greater precision, especially in remarketing.

  • Advanced integration with Meta and Google Ads: the platform uses your e-commerce data to automatically optimize audiences, bids, and conversions, directly from the admin.

  • Email and SMS automation: behavioral flows can be created directly within Shopify, without relying on external tools — ideal for abandoned carts, repurchase, and loyalty.

🔁 Flow: smarter and more connected automations

Shopify Flow has evolved and now goes far beyond basic in-store automations. The new version allows for the creation of more advanced flows, with conditional logic, branching, and external integrations.

The main new features:

  • New, more intuitive interface, with conditional logic and multiple branching — perfect for more complex flows without needing code.

  • More native integrations with external apps and services, such as marketing, logistics, customer service, and ERP tools.

  • And most importantly: Flow now allows using the response of an HTTP Request within the flow. This opens up possibilities for automatic decisions based on data from external APIs — such as ERP status, customer credit, supplier inventory, among others.

For those who already used Flow, this update is a game-changer. For those who have never tried it, now is the right time to explore.

🎨 Themes (Horizon): more freedom, more performance, less friction

Shopify has launched Horizon, its new theme base — and it redefines how stores are built and scaled, combining creative freedom with high technical performance.

  • Modular and native blocks: build pages with drag-and-drop blocks, without needing code editing. Ideal for quick scaling, testing variations, and maintaining visual consistency.

  • 10 new themes available, all optimized for speed, mobile, and conversion — with styles designed for different niches, such as fashion, home, beauty, B2B, and food.

  • AI integrated into the editor: describe what you want in text ("a storefront with reviews and a CTA") and AI automatically generates the structure.

  • Improved theme editor: now with real-time preview, inline text editing, copy/paste of blocks and sections, customizable names, and more intuitive organization.

  • Fully compatible with Shopify's new technologies, such as Checkout Extensibility and internationalization via Markets.

Creating, adjusting, and evolving your store has become simpler, faster, and smarter — without sacrificing brand identity or performance.

🚚  Shipping: more control and less friction at checkout

The shipping experience has become more flexible, both for the merchant and the consumer.

  • Split shipping at checkout: customers can choose different delivery methods for different products in the same order.

  • Improvements in integrations with global logistics partners, optimizing time and traceability.

  • Possibility of more granular control over shipping rules, regions, deadlines, and costs.

🤖 Sidekick: Shopify's AI

The Sidekick is Shopify's AI assistant, and it's more powerful than ever:

  • Executes tasks via text: you can type "create summer collection with 20% discount" and it does it.

  • Analyzes data and creates reports on demand, with explanations in natural language.

  • Generates images, product descriptions, blocks, and campaigns using AI.

  • It also helps edit themes, answer questions, and optimize the store in real time.

Developer Experience: more APIs, more control, less workaround

1. More power via Shopify Functions
Shopify Functions is now the backbone for backend customizations in production. It runs on WebAssembly, ensuring high performance (execution in less than 5 ms) and automatic scaling during sales peaks. With it, developers create custom logic — from volume discounts to shipping validations and payment rules — all published as apps and configured directly in the admin, without needing to touch Liquid files or maintain separate scripts.

2. New and more open APIs, including Checkout Extensibility
The checkout layer has been completely revamped to be extensible via APIs:

  • Checkout UI Extensions allow injecting React components into the checkout flow and on the thank you page.
  • Checkout Branding API provides fine-grained control over styles (colors, typography, logos).
  • Web Pixels expanded to track any events within the checkout (abandonment tracking, delivery choices, upsells, etc.), without relying on checkout.liquid
  • 3. Hydrogen Improvements: more performance and headless flexibility
The April 2025 edition of Hydrogen (v2025.4.0) brought:

    • Internationalization: automatic redirection of translated URLs, avoiding duplicate content.
    • Cart and validations: correction in quantity checking and smoother account logout.
    • Componentization: refactoring of blocks such as ProductItem and deprecation of the old <Variant Selector />, making the component kit more cohesive.
    • SFAPI update to version 2025-04, with new endpoints and payload optimizations that enhance rendering and data performance.

⚙️ Operations and POS: unified control across all channels

Shopify has advanced in unifying operations to simplify daily tasks — especially for those managing multiple stores, marketplaces, or physical points of sale.

With the Summer ‘25 edition updates, operational management becomes more fluid and centralized:

    • A unified admin allows managing multiple markets and channels (DTC, B2B, physical stores) in one place — without needing to switch between environments.

    • Automation of operational processes, such as returns, tax calculation, localization rules, and logistics flows — reducing manual errors and rework.

    • Remote POS management (point of sale) with catalog control, prices, and specific settings per physical store — directly from the main admin.

    • More organization for handling regional inventories, local promotions, and specific business rules per channel or market.

    • Multiple Business Entities: it is now possible to operate with more than one legal entity in the same store, with local currencies, separate bank accounts, and reports per operation — ideal for those selling in different countries or business fronts.

    • Multi-discount Codes: create a single code (or automatic discount) that applies multiple benefits simultaneously — such as 15% off selected products + free shipping above R$ 400.
Available via apps with support for the new Discount Function API.

🛍️ Shop App: from tracker to intelligent sales channel

The Shop app has evolved from a simple order tracker to a complete discovery and shopping channel — powered by artificial intelligence.

    • Now, Shop delivers personalized experiences per user, with recommendations adjusted to shopping behavior.

    • The most impactful new feature: integration with AI-powered shopping agents, which act as "virtual salespeople," helping customers navigate, compare, and buy.

    Conclusion

Shopify Editions Summer '25 marks a new phase for the platform — more connected to the reality of brands, smarter with AI support, and much more open for personalization and scale.
