Step-by-Step Tutorial App Shopify Quati

Quati: Smart Discounts is a Shopify app that lets you create smart and conditional discounts. Learn when to use it and how to set it up correctly.

What is Quati: Smart Discounts (and when does it make sense to use it)?

Quati: Smart Discounts is a Shopify app that allows you to create smart discounts based on advanced rules, going beyond the limitations of the platform's native discounts.

While Shopify allows you to create simple discounts (percentage, fixed amount, or free shipping), Quati adds strategic layers of logic, allowing the discount to be applied only when certain conditions are met — such as payment method, customer type, B2B or B2C, or specific cart rules.

In practice, Quati helps store owners use discounts as a conversion and margin tool, and not just as a generic promotion.

What problem does Quati solve?

In Shopify stores, it's common to face challenges like:

  • Incentivizing lower-cost payment methods (like Pix or bank slip) without having to grant discounts for all orders
  • Restricting discounts to specific products, collections, or scenarios, avoiding margin loss
  • Creating distinct rules for B2C and B2B customers without duplicating campaigns or creating manual exceptions
  • Creating progressive discounts
  • Preventing uncontrolled accumulation of discounts, which leads to checkout inconsistencies
  • Clearly communicating at checkout when the discount is active — and what the customer needs to do to qualify

Quati solves these issues by allowing discounts to be conditional, strategic, and fully controlled, as well as visible at the most critical point of the journey: the purchase decision.

The App works by integrating with Shopify's Discounts area and with Checkout Extensions, to precisely control when and how discounts appear and are applied at checkout — with a focus on increasing conversions and, in some cases, reducing costs (for example, by incentivizing payment methods with lower fees)

If you want to better understand how discounts work on Shopify, we recommend this comprehensive guide.

Step-by-step: how to install and configure Quati in your Shopify store

1. Installing Quati on Shopify

  1. Access the Shopify App Store and search for Quati: Smart Discounts
  2. Click on Install
  3. Log in to your Shopify store (if prompted)
  4. Review permissions and confirm installation

After installation, Quati will be available at:
Shopify Admin → Apps → Quati: Smart Discounts

2. Understanding Quati's structure

When you access the app, you'll notice that Quati works with Three main functionalities:

 Choose the discount type

Upon entering the app, you will generally find three main areas:

Advanced discounts

To create more complex rules that go beyond Shopify's standard.

Discount by payment method

To incentivize Pix, bank slip, or another eligible method with a specific benefit.

Progressive discount

To apply discounts based on value or quantity ranges.

3. Creating an advanced discount (smart coupon)

Step 1 — Create the discount

  1. Inside Quati, click on Discount coupons and then on Criar Desconto (Create Discount).
  2. Choose if the discount will be:
  • Automatic, applied directly at checkout or
  • By code (manual coupon)

       3. Define an internal name for the discount (not visible to the customer)

Step 2 — Define the discount type

In the same coupon, you can combine:

  • Product Discount
  • Order Discount
  • Shipping Discount (free or discounted shipping)

👉 This is one of Quati's major differentiators:
in standard Shopify, you need to create a coupon for each type.
Here, everything can reside in the same discount.

Step 3 — Choose products or collections

You can define where the discount will be applied:

  • All products
  • Specific products
  • Specific collections

📌 Note:

  • It's possible to apply by collection
  • There's no practical product limit (the technical limit is high)
  • If you want to apply to all, just select the global option

Step 4 — Cart rules (optional)

Quati allows you to apply additional rules, such as:

  • Minimum quantity of products in the cart
  • Validation based on specific products
  • Minimum order subtotal

These rules help to:

  • Protect margin
  • Encourage increased average order value

Step 5 — Customer eligibility

Here you define who can use the discount:

  • All customers
  • Specific customers
  • Customers with tags
  • Separation between B2C and B2B
  • Purchases:
    • One-time
    • Subscription
    • Or both

👉 These filters do not exist in this form in Shopify's standard discount.

Step 6 — Usage limits

You can control:

  • Total number of coupon uses
  • Single use per customer
  • No limit (open campaigns)

Step 7 — Combination with other discounts

Define if the coupon can be combined with:

  • Other product discounts
  • Order discounts
  • Shipping discounts

This prevents conflicts at checkout and discounts accumulating uncontrollably.

Creating a discount by payment method (Pix, bank slip, etc.)

This functionality is used to incentivize specific payment methods, usually with lower operational costs.

Step 1 — Create a discount by payment method

  1. Access the Discount by payment method area
  2. Define:
  • Internal name
  • Code displayed at checkout
  • Discount value:
  • Percentage
  • Or fixed amount

Step 2 — Define audience (B2C / B2B)

As with advanced coupons, you can choose:

  • If the discount is valid for B2C
  • For B2B
  • Or for both

Step 3 — Choose where the discount applies

You can define if the payment method discount is valid for:

  • Specific products
  • Specific collections
  • Specific variants

This control is often used when:

  • Some products cannot have a discount
  • The Pix discount, for example, is only valid for part of the catalog

Step 4 — Message at checkout (big differentiator)

Quati allows you to display messages directly at checkout, such as:

  • "Pay with Pix and get 5% off"
  • "Change payment method and save"

These messages help the customer understand the benefit at the moment of decision.

📌 All this configuration is done within the app, without needing to manually modify the checkout.

Step 5 - Configure the payment method position (index)

This is the most important point for the discount to work correctly.

In Quati, you will see a field like "payment method position."
It indicates which item in the checkout payment methods list Quati should observe.

How to configure:

1. Go to your store's checkout.

2. In the payment step, observe the order of the methods (e.g., Pix, Card, Bank Slip...)

3. In Quati, enter the number corresponding to the position of the desired method in the list

Practical example (order at checkout):

1. Credit card

2. Pix

3. Bank slip

➡️ If you want a discount on Pix, the index would be 2.

📌 Important:

  • If you change the order of payment methods (or install/remove gateways), this position may change.
  • If the position is incorrect, the discount may not apply even with all other settings correct.

Important:

After saving the discount, add the payment method extension to your store's checkout for the rule to work correctly.

6. How progressive discount works in Quati

The progressive discount was designed to simplify a logic that, in native Shopify, tends to be fragmented.

You can configure tiers by:

  • total cart value
  • total line items
  • total item quantity

And define discounts in:

  • percentage
  • fixed value

Example:

  • above R$100 → 10%
  • above R$200 → 20%
  • above R$300 → 30%

Important limitations (attention!)

  • Automatic discounts created by apps have a limit of 25 active per store (Shopify rule):

What counts towards this limit? Automatic discounts created with functions

What doesn't count? Discounts by code

Therefore, Quati displays a counter and warning within the app to help the team control this usage.

  • Manual discounts (by code) do not count towards this limit.
  • Some functionalities, such as discounts by payment method at checkout, are only active for Shopify Plus merchants, as they depend on access to Checkout Extensibility.
